A sustainable alternative to poly bags in the fashion industry
Wastebased has created a new, sustainable poly bag called ‘The Item Bag 2.0’ as an eco-friendly alternative to regular plastic poly bags.
These are a huge problem in the fashion industry. They’re normally made from PE or PP and they’re used for storing clothing as it moves around the supply chain. Almost every piece of clothing goes in a poly bag at some point, and often items will move from poly bag to poly bag as they make their way to the consumer, resulting in a lot of invisible plastic consumption behind the scenes. Even brands trying their hardest to be sustainable are facing difficulties removing poly bags from their supply chains entirely. But poly bags do have a purpose. Products need to be stored safely as they travel from manufacturer to consumer and handled without damaging delicate fabrics.
After a lot of hard work, Wastebased was able to find a way to upgrade the otherwise unsustainable poly bags. Their solution is the Item Bag 2.0 — a biodegradable, non-toxic, carbon-negative storage bag that dissolves in boiling water. In seconds. That’s right, once it’s reached the end of its usable life, you can dispose of it by dissolving it in boiling water almost instantly (swipe right to see it in action!). And the best part is that the Item Bag 2.0 will be easily accessible to small and medium sized brands who wish to start implementing this technology right now.
Wastebased are launching an initial, limited production run in two standard sizes which are available for pre-order now with low MOQs. Later, they will likely produce many more and hopefully change the game in the fashion industry!
